2024 Keynote Speaker

Dr. Kimberly Munro

Dr. Kimberly Munro is an archaeologist who has been excavating ancient sites in Peru since 2006. She's a proud first-generation student, Latina, and lover of all things science, especially if it's an excuse to get outside in nature in play in the dirt. Kimberly grew up in the swamps of South Florida, raised by a single mom, with two older brothers and a younger sister. She earned a dual B.A. degree in Anthropology and Religious Studies in 2007 from Florida State University and also holds a Master's of Science in Geography , also from Florida State. She received her PhD in Anthropology from Louisiana State University in 2018, where her dissertation research focused on early religions in the highland Andes of South America. She is now an Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Archaeology at New Mexico Highlands University, located in Las Vegas New Mexico. She also is the co-director of the Cosma Archaeological Project, a long-term research project involving excavation in the upper Nepeña River Valley, of Peru. Formerly, Kimberly spent two years living in La Junta, and working & teaching at Otero College. This will be her third year participating in Girls in the Middle, and she's grateful for this opportunity to come back to Otero to talk to everyone here about her love of Archaeology, science, and the expansive futures you all have available to you.
